Build a Wood Storage Shed Without Shedding Tears!

Build Wood Storage ShedDo you want to know how to build a shed the quickest and easiest way possible without spending a bunch of cash?  While there’s no way to turn you into a seasoned pro overnight, the good news is you don’t need to be an expert to build a great wood storage shed.

Here are some valuable tips to get you started on the right path.

First, you’ll need to choose whether to build on a concrete slab, or a wood floor.  Each has its benefits but personally, I prefer wood since it is easier to cut, easier to erect and easier to move (if you ever need to).

If you go with wood for your floor you will need to protect it from any moisture or liquid that can land on the floor from the many wet and wonderful tools we all like to hang (or park) in our sheds.   The best way to deal with this is to build your floor system out of tempered lumber that will resist rot and termites. It is totally fine to use regular framing lumber to frame the walls of your shed.

Next, you will probably want to decide to buy either prefabricated roof trusses (quicker), or just cut your own rafters (quite a bit cheaper).  Be sure to check out the YouTube video at the end of this article for a great example of how the roof gets placed and secured into position. Frankly, it’s not very tough to just do it yourself, as long as you find yourself some simple wood storage shed plans to follow.

Another tip you might want to remember is to apply asphalt felt paper on the outsides of the roof and exterior walls to further protect the wood from leaks and rot damage.

While it is certainly possible to accomplish this shed construction project by yourself, when it comes time to frame some of the larger pieces (walls, for example), it’s a good idea to get some help when it’s time to lean everything in place.   It’s important to pace yourself, expend less energy and keep the project enjoyable.

One other important issue you will need to nail perfectly (pardon the pun): You will need to get the floor truly level and square. Take great care to get this right in the beginning and you will save yourself a ton of work later on. Uneven and unlevel floors and foundations will throw your whole construction slightly off, and can make it difficult to join your walls and roof later.

Now, it’s one thing to TALK about shed building, but it’s quite another to SEE IT in action. Take a look at this YouTube video: How to Build a Shed to see just how easy shed building can be when you have the right plans to work from.
